Day one of our trip was spent mostly in the air. When we finally touched down in Norfolk it was 11:35pm and we were hungry and exhausted. We retrieved our rental car and our luggage, plugged in our GPS and headed towards Portsmouth.
The first thing we noticed was how old and rundown Norfolk was and how quiet. We spotted a Wendy's that was open until two and pulled into grab something to eat. It's funny, even though they serve the exact same food as they do at home, it tasted so different. (We later discovered that Wendy's is like McDonalds back home, there is one on every corner)
On the way to the hotel we continued to notice how old the areas were that we were traveling through. I chose the Hotel Dinwiddie because it was a historical hotel that was built and used during the 1940's and it was close to the hospital where William was. Little did I know that it was in an area that's known to be a little 'seedy' at night. When we pulled up at about midnight, the bar across the street was hopping and there were a few of locals hanging about. I just wanted to get in as fast as possible.
Luckily, the clerk inside was very friendly, (like the majority of people we have come into contact with) and made us feel comfortable right away. The room and hotel are very clean and our room is very comfortable and spacious. It will make for a very nice stay for the next 2 1/2 weeks.
