Day Two

With only 5 1/2 hours of sleep, Darren and I awoke at 6:30 am to get ready to go to the hospital. The first thing we were going to do was meet Jenny, our birth mother. We stopped at the only place open, a Super Walmart and picked up a bouquet of Roses and a huge teddy bear to give to her. Of course it seemed so inadequat in lieu of what she was about to give us.

Up until we arrived at the hospital my emotions had been fairly steady. With all the excitement and exhaustion of the trip I really didn't have much to give, but as soon as we pulled up to her building the tears started to fall. The realization of what was about to take place was too much for this mama to handle. Darren calmed me down and we went in.

Let me say first off that Jenny is amazing. She is a very strong woman, you sense that right off. She greeted us with a big smile and a hug and made us feel as if she had always known us. At this point she hadn't seen William and was not sure that she would, but she was excited for us to see him. We talked for a few minutes and then she called the social worker in for us to get banded, so we could finally meet him. Jenny mentioned that her family was coming that afternoon and she would like us to come and meet them which we were so excited to do.

Mildred, our social worker took us into an empty room and went to go get the baby. I wish I could adequately describe all that I was feeling at that moment. The excitement of seeing my beautiful baby boy, the agony of knowing his birth mom was right next door, the weight of the responsibility of raising this precious gift...then in he rolled in in his little bassinet. So tiny, so perfect, so completely mine and I started to cry again. As I sat and held him, the tears welling from my eyes, I prayed and prayed and prayed God's blessing upon him. This tiny miracle was ours and I could scarcely take it all in.

William Oliver Sorgea is 6 pounds 9 ounces and 19" long. He has a covering of dark hair and dark blue eyes, (his mom has the most beautiful light blue eyes, as does her other three children). He loves to be swaddled tightly and held. The only time he cried was when I had to unwrap him to change his diaper, he doesn't like that! He eats every four hours; his first two days he was a gulper and would spit up constantly during his feedings. The nurses changed his formula 3 times before they found something that worked and we have to burp him after every 5 ml. He doesn't seem to mind the interruption and he is taking about 1 t0 1-1/2 ounces at each feeding. So far he is absolutely the most perfect baby!

Darren and I stayed with William until about 1pm, then we left and finally went to eat. There is not alot of places to eat in Portsmouth and it's really not that nice of a town, so we drove to Chesapeake Bay and found a Red Robin, which was right across the street from Babies R Us. After we ate we ran across the street to buy a stroller, car seat and a few other things for William and then headed back to the hospital. We checked him out of the nursery and held him again for about an hour and then Jenny called to let us know her family was there and would we come and meet them.

We spent a lovely hour meeting her twin sister, Dawn and her three children Amber (16), Allison (12), and Dylan (1). What a wonderful family, Amber is a sweet young lady with a mothering heart who loves her mom and baby brother. Amber also happens to be 8 months pregnant. Allison is the tomboy and was very quiet during our visit, and Dylan was a charmer. Jenny says that William looks just like Dylan did when he was an infant (she finally took a peek at him through the nursery window). I'm glad, Dylan is adorable! Amber looked through our family pictures and told Darren she was the one who insisted on our family. She thought we had a beautiful home. They allowed us to take some pictures of them and then we all said goodnight.

Darren and I went back to the nursery for William and stayed with him until 8:30, they didn't have any available rooms for us to stay there with him all night or we would have, and then we left to go get some dinner. Afterwards we went and saw Ironman the movie and then went back to the hotel to get ready to bring him home....
